How the numbers are figured
Bag counts divide the number of units by the yield on a standard US mortar-mix bag, then round up. An 80 lb bag lays about 37 standard bricks or 13 standard 8×8×16 blocks at a 3/8 inch joint. Smaller bags scale with weight. If you enter a wall size, the count uses about 7 bricks per square foot, or 1.125 blocks per square foot.

100 standard bricks take 3 bags of 80 lb mix before waste. With 10% extra, it is still 3 bags. A 60 lb bag lays fewer units, so you will need more of those.
Can I use this for tuckpointing?
No. This page is for laying new brick or block. Grinding out and refilling old joints uses a different amount of mix.
